Enlighten-sponsored youngster Will Tregurtha got his 2016 season off to a flying start with victory in his first race of the season at the historic Brands Hatch circuit in the UK.

Tregurtha, who only turned 16 the day before, competes in the 120mph Ginetta Junior Championship which is one of the world’s most prestigious series for aspiring racing drivers.

Races are broadcast live to huge audiences on the free-to-air ITV4 channel and in front of packed crowds at the circuits themselves. The Ginetta Juniors are known for their action-packed wheel to wheel action which fans enjoy as part of the headline British Touring Car package.

Tregurtha, who is fully focused on a career as a professional race driver, put his Enlighten-liveried Ginetta G40J on the front row of the grid in qualifying and then stormed to an exciting victory by less than a second in race one.

In race two Tregurtha, from Milton Keynes in England, was again battling for the lead when a slight collision on the very last corner demoted him to fifth. However, it is clear that he has the pace to challenge for race wins throughout the season which takes in 23 more races across nine weekends at the UK’s top race tracks.

Will Tregurtha said: “I am delighted to have picked up my first win in the very first race of the season. Both for myself and for Tony Tregurtha, Andrew Johansen and Brent Churchill at Enlighten who have given me so much support.”

“We’re very proud of Will’s fantastic performance at the start of this season,” said Enlighten CEO Tony Tregurtha. “He’s proving himself in a competitive field and we’re happy to follow and support his journey for a second season.”

Continued Will : “My team HHC Motorsport did a great job with the car and it was a shame that I couldn’t pick up another podium in race two on Sunday, but we had a great battle at the front and I think it was entertaining for the live ITV cameras. That result just makes me more determined to push for wins again at Donington and Thruxton where we race next.”
